About this Event

Hello! Welcome to Craft 'n' Chill, the ultimate Sunday afternoon reset. Each month, we dive into a creative craft project designed to soothe your mind and lift your spirits. It's no ordinary craft workshop. If you're reading this it's because you've felt the calling: craft is therapy and it's what you need right now. So this if your invitation to carve out some 'Me Time' to attend.

WHAT TO EXPECT...

A relaxing couple of hours where you give yourself permission to pause, create and connect with your hands and your mind.

WHAT WILL YOU MAKE...

The exact project won't be reveaed until your arrive. It's the taking part that matters not the end result. We try different techniques often inspired by colourful cultural traditions. Past sessions have including

  • Wycinanki Paper Cutting (Polish & Ukranian)
  • Day of the Dead photo frames
  • Lunar New Year lantern making
  • South Asian Heritage mixed media collages
  • Indian Wood block printing
  • 1960s Pop Art Painting
  • Dilwaleen - Candlemaking to mark Halloween and Diwali
  • Pakistani Truck Art
  • And tecniques like stencilling, sewing, clay, collage, metal embossing

You don’t need any experience. Just bring your lovely self and a bag to carry your masterpiece home in. Materials are provided.

WHY COME ALONG?

Look I get it. Sunday's are the kind of day where distractions are aplenty. Brunch dates with mates, the lure of a duvet day and doing nothing, an opportunity to stay in and watch the box set you're been desperate to get back to, or worst; Monday is around the corner and you've got work to do - but hear me out.

Your mind deserves a break and your creativity wants to play so let it.

Engaging in hands-on creativity isn’t just fun, it’s proven to reduce stress, boost your mood and bring you back to the present moment. These sessions are designed to be a calming escape from the noise of daily life. No pressure, no perfection, just the soothing rhythm of making something with your own hands.

WHO RUNS THE SESSION?

Colour Therapist and Crafts Expert Momtaz Begum-Hossain will guide through different ideas to inspire your creativity. An advocate for creative wellbeing she champions arts and crafts as a tool of healing, improving mental heath and self-expression.

Fact: there are 100s of craft tutors and craft events in London but only one Momtaz with unmatchable crafty credentials! She was named one of the UK's most Influential Crafters by Mollie Makes magazine, has stood in for Kirsty Allsop on several occasions, demonstrated crafts on live TV and radio, written several craft books and has even run craft workshops on a cruise ship as well as some of the capital's most moved creative places like The Southbank Centre, Tate Modern and Barbican so you'll be in good hands!

WHERE DO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?

Come peckish! The venue is Well Bean Co, a vegan community cafe overlooking the Royal Docks waterfront in East London where you can purchase food and drinks that you can consume before, or during the session.

Personal menu recommendations:

Tikka Bagel and Lux Hot Chocolate : )

The nearest public transport is the DLR station Gallion's Reach, East London. Best reached via Custom House on the Elizabeth Line.

The 129 bus stops a 2 min walk away bus stop: Magellan Boulevard . This bus is currenty FREE to travel on and is ideal if there are DLR closures, catch it at North Greenwich.

WHEN DO SESSION TAKE PLACE?
Crafternoons are scheduled to take place on the last Sunday of the month, 4-6pm, but there may be some months there are changes so please check to see when events are listed and book before you come.

Please aim to arrive on time so the session can start promptly - they aren't drop in, it's recommended you stay the full two hours to fully immerse yourself in the mindful nature of making.

WHERE IS MY TICKET DONATION GOING?

These sessions are donation-based and your full ticket price will be donated to the Well Bean Co, a community cafe and event space that has proudly been funding mental health initiatives since 2017. Here's a few words from them...

"Your donations for classes help us sustain and grow our vital community and mental health projects. Together, we’re making a difference one cup, class and connection at a time."

ARE YOU FUNDED?

No. We do not receive funds or grants to run these sessions. Momtaz runs them voluntarily using her own craft supplies as she believes there should be no barriers to creativity and is keen to encourage more adults to do crafts to experience their wellbeing benefits.

Please get in touch if you would like to donate any craft materials or make a donation towards purchasing craft materials that can be used in the sessions by all participants.

If you have any accessibility requirements please email the organiser beforehand so arrangements can be made to ensure you have the best experience: [email protected].

See you at a crafternoon soon!
