About this Event
Dive deep into the fascinating world of tarot with this engaging 3-week workshop, perfect for beginner and intermediate readers.
Each session is thoughtfully designed to guide participants from understanding tarot’s rich history to mastering reading techniques for self-development and personal growth.
Week 1: A Warm Welcome
Saturday, January 31, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
- Students will begin their journey by learning tarot’s origin by tracing its start as a card game to its transformation into a tool for self discovery and divination. We’ll also pause to notice tarot in the modern day has expanded to embrace inclusivity for all people.
- From that foundation students will glean a grounded understanding of the structure of tarot that includes not only exploring the Major and Minor Arcana but incorporating the 5 elements, numerology, and astrology.
- Together the class will immediately start pulling cards and practicing single card interpretations that are perfect for daily check-ins or moments of quick curiosity. The focus will be on students building trust in your intuition and learning there is no such thing as one ‘right answer’.
Week 2: Growing Your Intuition
Saturday, February 7, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
- Stoking the fires of curiosity is week one, week two begins by jumping into 3 card spreads where students will begin to stretch their intuitive muscles and understand how to sit with the cards and allow their message to wildly unfurl from within.
- Continuing to deepen their practice, students will learn how to use the images on the card, no matter what deck they use, as visual and emotional cues for discerning card meanings and answers for questions. Weaving gentle narratives as more cards are added, eventually building a tapestry of storytelling.
- As with any tool, care and respect within tarot are necessary for practitioners so students will learn ethical practices and boundaries that will need consideration as they read cards. Also learning how to contend with challenging or heavy cards and delivering those difficult readings with emphasis on empowerment to the querent.
- Group Activity: Partner readings to build trust and fluency in interpreting cards.
Week 3: A Tarot Practice that Takes Root
Saturday, February 14, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
- Explore advanced tarot practices and learn to build rituals that feel authentic (and not performative) to each individual. Using these centering practices, students will discover how to set intentions based on trusting their instincts and pursue how to build a long lasting tarot practice that grows with them.
- Building on the foundation from previous weeks, students will finally dive deep into the beautiful chaos of advance spreads like the Celtic Cross, the 9-card Tableau, and other multi-card spreads. In using these spreads, students will begin to see how these larger readings allow for exploration of patterns, contradictions, and surprises to emerge in their readings.
- Final Group Exercise: Collaborate on a collective reading experience, combining insights and refining your techniques.
By the end of this workshop series, participants will feel confident interpreting tarot for themselves and others while appreciating its profound history and modern versatility.
You can take this entire series for $100 (+ EB fees) or an individual class for $35 (+ EB fees). More information is here.
About the instructor:
Ettie Archer (they/them) started reading tarot in 2016 after deconstructing from Christian Fundamentalism with an Independent Baptist and Southern Baptist flavor. In the summer of 2018, Ettie started Wildly Tarot Podcast with their close friend Holly, talking about tarot, mysticism, and everything in between. Holly and Ettie wrote The History of Tarot Art during the height of chaos in 2020. It was published in Autumn of 2021. In the summer of 2023, Ettie’s journey took them from South Korea (their home of eight years) back to Tennessee, where they now teach yoga, sling cards, and causing they/them may/hem wherever they go.
