Covington Kentucky Photo Walk
About this Event
Like all of our photo walks this is both a learning experience and a great chance for you to create amazing images. Your guide for this photo walk will be one (or more) of our instructors who will happily answer your photography questions throughout the photo walk. The instructor will have multiple photo opportunities planned as well as reviews/instructions for each photo opportunity.
Photo Opportunities May Include:
- John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge (The Suspension Bridge).
- Great American Ballpark. With lights on after sunset if there is a game. Some games have fireworks displays after the game.
- Paycor (Paul Brown) Stadium. With lights on after sunset if there is a game.
- Cityscapes of the downtown Cincinnati skyline. The skyline is looks great during sunset and at night.
- People (Street Photography).
- Horse drawn carriages often cross the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge and can be seen on the streets of Covington.
- Boats on the Ohio and Licking Rivers.
- Houses from the 1800s and early 1900s.
- Sunsets with the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge in the foreground (if the sun sets during the photo walk).
- A lesson and demonstration of how to use Slow Sync. Flash to create portraits with a city in the background (both the subject and background properly exposed).
- Street performers.
- Birds.
- Sunrise with the river in the foreground during early morning photo walks.
- Ask an instructor how to create ghost pictures so you can make your family and friends look like ghosts in Halloween photos.
- Many more!
Required Equipment:
- A digital or film camera with one or more lenses. This course does NOT offer any instruction in using a cell phone camera and question that are specific to cell phone will not be answered by the instructor(s).
- One or more memory cards for your camera. If you are going to use a film camera at least one roll of film but most students in the past have used three to five rolls of film.
- At least one fully charged battery for your camera.
- If you bring an external flash, at least on set of fully charged (if using rechargeable) or 1 new set of batteries (if using non-rechargeable batteries).
Recommended Equipment:
- A dSLR (digital SLR) camera or mirror-less interchangeable lens camera is preferred but point and shoot cameras are acceptable.
- Tripod (especially if your class is in the evening or during sunrise).
- At least one lens. Bringing multiple lenses is a great idea. We have had students use lenses ranging from an 8mm fish-eye to 400mm telephoto and everything in between. The most common lenses range from 18mm to 200mm for this location. We feel that you can create great photos with just about any lens on this photo walk.
- A flash if you have one.
- Polarizing and/or graduated neutral density filters can be helpful if you have them.
- Flashlight if your walk is scheduled for evening/night or prior to sunrise.
- Pen & small notebook to take notes.
- Comfortable shoes or boots we will be walking and standing during this photo walk.
