BIG WEDNESDAY AT THE CALIFORNIA SURF MUSEUM
COVID: A Love Story
From Tragedy To Miracle — One Woman's Battle To Save Her Husband And The Community That Rallied Behind Them
Join us for an unforgettable evening with author Maria Brophy and her husband Drew Brophy as they share their extraordinary story of faith, perseverance, love, and survival.
When COVID struck Drew, a healthy and athletic surfer and artist, Maria was forced to say goodbye through a hospital window. Doctors placed Drew in an induced coma and warned that he had little chance of surviving.
Before going under, Drew promised, "I'll beat this." Maria replied, "I'll be here every day until you wake up."
What followed was a remarkable journey that defied medical expectations. During 70 days on a ventilator, Drew faced a collapsed lung, multiple infections, complete paralysis, and a near-death experience.
When urged to remove life support, Maria refused to give up. Instead, she became Drew's fiercest advocate, relying on faith, prayer, and the unwavering support of family, friends, and community.
Against all odds, Drew survived.
Their inspiring story is a powerful testament to hope, resilience, and the strength of love.
