Coventry City Centre South: Regeneration Begins

Demolition has started on Coventry’s landmark £450 million City Centre South project, the city’s most ambitious redevelopment in decades.

Led by The Hill Group, the transformation will replace outdated post-war buildings with a vibrant, sustainable new quarter.

Importantly, 200 affordable homes will be delivered as the first completed buildings for the project, supporting a diverse and inclusive city centre community.

Prioritising affordable homes as part of the development reflects the strategic vision of Coventry City Council and the West Midlands Combined Authority, which has provided significant investment to unlock the scheme. Located in the heart of Coventry city centre, City Centre South sits just a five-minute walk from Coventry Railway Station and is positioned around the historic Coventry Market and adjacent to the new Cultural Gateway, placing future residents at the centre of the city’s cultural, retail, and employment districts.

Phase one includes the demolition of some large-scale buildings, including the former Argos and Barracks car park, paving the way for 991 new homes, 8,000 sqm of commercial space, and 17,000 sqm of public open space. Designed by Allies and Morrison, the development blends Coventry’s heritage with modern, pedestrian-friendly designs.

This site visit will include a tour of the ongoing demolition and an overview of future works and will include the careful removal and relocation of several significant pieces of Coventry public art.

PPE required : Hi-Viz vest, steel toe capped boots, hard hat & gloves. Please do not book unless you have the required PPE.
