About the band:
Mike Couto began entertaining at Stonehill College in 1963 as a member of The Country Squires, a folk-singing foursome. Sixty years later, he is still at it, singing his original songs and other crowd favorites at local venues on the Southcoast of Massachusetts. After over five decades of performing with partner Bill Mulligan, also an original Squire, he now entertains as a solo act. Many of Mike's songs refer to his hometown of New Bedford, his Portuguese heritage, and the love of his life, his wife, Jo-Ann. They include New Bedford and Friends, Summertime in New England, A Real Azorean Guy, and, after his first visit to the Azores, his latest, Home Against, For The First Time. The autobiographical song, A Real Azorean Guy, was nominated for two awards at the 2016 International Portuguese Music Awards show (IPMA). Along with his music, Mike also enjoyed, and is now retired from, a career as a mathematics teacher, primarily at New Bedford High School. He was an award-winning photographer for the Standard-Times in New Bedford for five years -- photography being his third adventure. Mike now lives in Wareham, MA, and Bonita Springs, FL, with his lovely wife, Jo-Ann Ryan.
Lisa Couto's style incorporates Pop, R&B, Rock, and folk influences. She has traveled throughout the eastern seaboard and overseas to perform. In 2013, she was recognized as "Female Vocalist of the Year" by Motif Magazine. In 2015, she was recognized as "Best Folk Act", as well. She has released 3 CDs, and is working on a fourth, entitled "After the Trouble." She can be found singing originals and covers around New England. Her laidback style and soulful vocals capture audiences and create devoted followers and friends wherever she goes. Find out more at https://lisacouto.com
Billy Mulligan Jr. grew up listening to and watching his dad, Bill, perform throughout New England's SouthCoast as half of the duo, Couto & Mulligan. As he got older, Billy felt a strong connection to the music of Willie Nelson, Marty Stuart, Johnny Cash, and many others of Country Music's greatest artists, which shows in his covers and song choices. Mixing a sweet voice and nifty guitar licks, Billy is a popular music-maker at country gigs, fairs, festivals, and farmers' markets. Many of his dad's fans are often present in the audience to experience his uplifting music, and they especially love to hear him sing his father's favorite tune - "The Muleskinner Blues".
