Courage Ride is a charity bike ride that kicks off and finishes at Big Grove Brewery and Taproom in Iowa City. With five route options ranging from 18.5 to 105 miles, it’s designed for cyclists of all levels. Beyond the ride, participants can enjoy live music, great food, and a silent auction—making it a full day of fun for a great cause.The event honors Seth Bailey, a courageous young man who passed away from sarcoma cancer at age 25 in 2003. In his memory, his parents, Jackie and Tom Bailey, teamed up with Bicyclists of Iowa City (BIC) in 2005 to create a ride that welcomes everyone.
Proceeds from Courage Ride support the Sarcoma Cancer Research Program at the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC), providing 85% of all sarcoma seed grant funding at the university. Since 2005, these funds have fueled numerous research grants, many of which have grown into larger, promising studies. The momentum behind this research is driving new discoveries, forging key partnerships, and attracting top-tier talent—all helping to advance sarcoma treatment and improve patient lives.
