About this Event

When democratic institutions and the environmental protections they uphold are under threat, civil society becomes the essential line of defense. The Intertwine Alliance is bringing together its community of public agencies, businesses, and nonprofits working across the conservation, parks & recreation, and environmental justice sectors to meet this moment.

Building on the experience of the Freedom Trainers, this workshop offers practical tools for recognizing how power is consolidated against the public interest—and how to resist it. Drawing on the history of nonviolent civil resistance, we'll explore what has worked, what lessons apply today, and what pitfalls to avoid. Through interactive practices and collective exploration, we'll explore and discuss what is needed to respond with courage, clarity and resilience—and to sustain that response over time. Since our first offering of this training, information about elections protection has been added.

Space is limited to 75. We're gathering in the lovely private clubhouse at Level Beer (the location near the airport). Beer, cider and nonalcohlic beverages are available for purchase. There are foodcarts on site. We'll mingle, eat and drink from 6 to 6:30 p.m., with the training starting promptly at 6:30 p.m.

The workshop is brought to us by Yee Won Chong, a strategist, facilitator and consultant who helps mission-driven organizations align their values, culture and operations to create lasting impact. He's a Senior Fellow at the Western States Center, coaching staff and facilitating a community of practice for racial equity leaders in government and nonprofits. He also trains in collective noncooperation through the Freedom Trainers Network. He co-produced "Trans Dudes with Lady Cancer," a documentary about navigating healthcare as a transgender masculine person diagnosed with breast cancer, screened by medical institutions and universities worldwide.
