About this Event
In the demanding field of grief and addiction counseling, being "fully present with pain" is our greatest clinical tool, yet it is also our primary source of vulnerability. This 3-hour intensive training provides a deep dive into the invisible forces that shape our work: Compassion Fatigue and Countertransference.
While these terms are often used interchangeably in clinical literature, treating them as the same is a clinical mistake with real consequences for both the healer and the client. This session moves beyond "surface-level" self-care to provide a neuro-bio-psycho-spiritual framework for long-term clinical longevity.
What to Expect
If you attend this training, you will transition from a passive understanding of burnout to an active, evidence-informed strategy for sustainability. You can expect:
- A Scientific Deep Dive: Explore the "Stress Cascade," learning how chronic exposure to trauma prevents the nervous system from recalibrating, leading to emotional numbing and physical ailments.
- Psychodynamic Insight: Reconnect with the psychodynamic legacy of therapy to understand how a client may unconsciously represent a figure from your own personal history, distorting the therapeutic lens.
- Interactive Exercises: Participate in the "Eulogy Exercise" and "Somatic Awareness" sessions designed to help you identify your own "soft spots" and triggers in a safe, professional environment.
- Practical Toolkits: Leave with a "Sustainability Contract" and specific interventions for boundary setting, ensuring you remain a highly effective clinician without sacrificing your own well-being.
- Collaborative Learning: Engage in small group insights to normalize the emotional weight of grief work and share coping strategies with trusted colleagues.
The Core Philosophy
Effective clinicians must prioritize their own well-being as a prerequisite, not an afterthought, to excellent client care. By the end of this session, you will be empowered to transform countertransference from a potential liability into a profound window of therapeutic insight.
