Workshop Introduction:Counteroffensive Edge & Impact Weapons Training
Join us June 5–7 for an intensive three-day workshop with Paulo Rubio, instructor in Pekiti-Tirsia Kali, one of the world’s most direct and combat-proven Filipino Martial Arts systems.
This workshop focuses on counteroffensive edge and impact weapons training, emphasizing realistic application, tactical structure, and embodied understanding. Over approximately 4 hours per day, participants will train with knives, sticks, and machetes, exploring how Pekiti-Tirsia Kali addresses real-world weapons engagement through timing, angling, footwork, and decisive counteraction.
Training will include:
• Counteroffensive responses to armed attacks
• Functional footwork, positioning, and body mechanics
• Managing distance, intent, and pressure
• Adaptive decision-making under dynamic conditions
• Transitions across weapons and ranges
This is not performance choreography. The material is practical, principle-driven, and taught with a strong emphasis on safety, reality, and context.

Instructor Bio | Paulo Rubio
Paulo Rubio holds the rank of Mandala in the art of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali and serves as an edged weapons trainer for law enforcement, military, armed security professionals, and civilian martial artists. He has trained and collaborated with some of the world’s leading subject matter experts in armed combat, self-defense, and risk management.
Paulo utilizes Ecological Dynamics Theory to rapidly equip students with relevant skill sets through physio-cognitive drills and challenges. This training approach develops practitioners who are not merely technicians, but problem solvers—capable of creating functionally adaptable performance solutions under demanding and unpredictable conditions.
