About this Event
The UK has a well-established tradition of therapeutic communities, providing a powerful intervention for clients who need much more extensive containment than that offered by once-weekly psychotherapy. These communities officially trace their roots back to the work of Foulkes and Bion at the Northfield Military Hospital during the Second World War, and the refinements of Maxwell Jones at the Henderson Hospital.
However, monasteries founded on the Rule of St. Benedict have a considerably longer history of growing healthy communities. In this CPD, Dan, a Group Analyst and TC practitioner, will introduce some of the core principles of a TC. With a particular emphasis on the concept of the “living-learning experience” Dan will then explore ways in which the centuries of Benedictine Monasticism can still offer insight and wisdom for modern therapeutic community practitioners.
