This free, family-friendly exhibition marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. It will share objects, photographs and stories that tell the story of Cirencester, the surrounding district and its residents, between 1939 and 1945.There will be lots of activities for children, including a chance to send secret messages via Morse Code using a spy radio, exploring how local defences such as Tank Traps worked, and packing their own evacuee suitcase. There will be a mini trail to help children discover significant locations in the town during the war, such as the Home Guard headquarters, the evacuee billeting room, and the tank traps.
It will also share the stories of real people from this time, including the Flying Nightingales from RAF Down Ampney, who risked their lives to rescue injured military personnel from the frontlines; the Home Guard commander; and a Land Girl based at Cirencester Park.
