Hi,Just under two weeks until the next dig and we are back on the Cotswolds again - this time at the other end of the canal at John Robinson Lock. For a change, we will be running a 3 day weekend, meeting up on site at about 10am on Friday 8th May and working through to Sunday 10th.
Jon Pontefract has sent over an extensive job list including:
Brickwork – NW gate to the bridge
Concrete behind stop plank channel (assuming the channels are delivered)
Fit stop plank channels
Coping stones x 4 on top of an extra course of brickwork in the NW gate recess
Bricks and mortar under the ‘new’ SW top hinge quoin
Make good the hinge quoin ‘barrel’
Shutter / dowel behind and alongside SW hinge quoin to increase the mass
Find remaining coping stones for SW ramp
Finish the SW towpath wall
Cast concrete behind brick frontage
Fit the French drain behind the wall in a sock and pea gravel
Finish the ramp down into the canal bed with membrane and stone, including canal bed up to the bridge
Cut the brick bypass culvert and remove the section that will be within the inspection chamber
Cast the foundation for the inspection chamber.
Swap some Heras fencing to exclude / direct viewing public
Create the start of a path to lead the viewing public into the Missing Mile
Chamber wall pointing
Start pulling back material behind the lower, Northern wall to allow dismantling
Plenty to do for everyone!
We are staying at Leonard Stanley scout hut - https://maps.app.goo.gl/qTsKdFRntBTUyeA66 which has showers!
I'm thinking we'll head to a pub for dinner on the Friday night, unfortunately the pub in Leonard Stanley doesn't do food so I'll have to find a different one - further info when I have it.
