Join us for Costumes and Cosplay Summer Camp!
A summer camp for girls and gender expansive kids* age 11- 14
July 13- 17, 9am -4pm
@ UNCA'S CAROL BELK THEATER BUILDING - on UNCA'S main campus!
$595 with lunch and snacks provided
Have you ever wanted to bring your favorite fantasy, anime, or video game character to life?
In this camp, students will learn the art of cosplay (“costume play”) to design their own wearable or wieldable versions of their favorite character’s gear! We will explore the craft of creating wearable designs using tools and materials such as EVA foam, cardboard, papercraft, clay, fabrics, and even 3D printing while being guided through hands-on techniques like patterning, foam carving, sewing, and structural building. Students will also practice techniques to add finishing touches like airbrushing, texturing, and weathering to give their creations a professional polish.
Whether they are crafting a magical staff, a sci-fi helmet, or a heroic piece of armor, this camp is all about using creativity and imagination to build something they’re proud to wear and show off!
Limited financial aid is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We hold a few spots in each class for applicants, and you may apply at any time. Apply here, and if funding is available we will send you a link to register.
Accessibility notes:
- Parts of the studio space are not climate controlled.
- Students will be exposed to a dusty space with loud machinery.
- Students will be asked to focus at a machine for periods of time.
* Our goal is to serve under-resourced communities, female-identified, and gender expansive students to help bridge the gender gap in STEAM fields and trades, and create excitement and curiosity around these fields. We ask families to understand that there is limited space in our classes, and know that we welcome students of all genders and demographics.
