"The funny, hopeful, and spirited sci-fi comedy explores concepts such as simulation theory and multiple dimensions..."

"Cosmic Disco Detective Rene is a feel-good, uplifting movie that has an unmistakable vibe, and entertaining characters. It celebrates its setting of New York City, and its medium of independent film. It’s lovingly crafted, and features several homages to its inspirations and roots. Cosmic Disco Detective Rene isn’t just a sci-fi comedy - it also explores a variety of unexpected subjects with depth, and a big dose of humor. It isn’t just a celebration of independent cinema, it represents the exact sort of stories that people who love indie film seek." - Jamie Toth, Cyclops At The Cinema

Are immortal time travelers going back in time to disrupt the past? Is that a threat to our time period? The government wants to know so they hire Rene, the famous New York City private detective who uses unusual methods - including using the background sound of the universe, which sounds like disco music - to find the answers. The looming threat of secret conventional and nuclear attacks on a light bridge/time bridge above Brooklyn drive Rene to try to solve the mystery fast.
Cosmic Disco Detective Rene is the sequel to The Secret Society For Slow Romance from early 2022 ("...an entertaining and optimistic comedy with an authentic indie spirit." - Film Threat). In this new movie writer/director/actor Sujewa Ekanayake and actor Alia Lorae return for a wild New York City science-fiction comedy adventure.
Ekanayake is the 1st filmmaker born in South Asia (Sri Lanka) to direct four fiction features in New York City (as far as we know). Cosmic Disco Detective Rene was one of the films in the Indie Discovery L.A. Film Series, which showed three independent films by emerging directors in Los Angeles in 2023.
