Bringing people together to celebrate Waves of Change: Harnessing Collaboration for Coastal Success
About this Event

This first-ever conference of the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Marine & Coastal Partnership (MCP) marks a significant moment in our collective effort to safeguard the future of our coastal and marine environments. Launched in February this year, the MCP has rapidly grown to include 47 member organisations from across the sectors, united by a shared commitment to foster resilient communities and ecosystems.

Under the theme 'Waves of Change: Harnessing Collaboration for Coastal Success', this conference will feature a dynamic lineup of inspiring talks showcasing cutting-edge work from across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. You’ll hear about innovative solutions, community-driven projects, and powerful collaborations that are already making a tangible impact in our region. Join us in shaping the future of our vital coastal and marine ecosystems, and be part of a transformative wave of change.

Draft Agenda:

  • Opening Remarks: Shaping the Future the MCP
Join us as Dr. Claire Eatock, Chair of the Marine and Coastal Partnership (MCP), opens the event with a warm welcome and provides an insightful overview of MCP’s mission, achievements, and future priorities. This session will set the stage for our collective efforts to protect and enhance the marine and coastal environments of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
  • Session One: Showcasing Innovative Projects and Collaborative Successes
In this session, local and national organizations will present their work, highlighting how it connects to the Marine and Coastal Partnership’s (MCP) strategic themes. Speakers will explore the pivotal role collaboration has played in achieving their goals. Using the following prompts, they will discuss their successes and future needs: How has collaboration contributed to your goals? How does your work align with MCP’s strategic themes and objectives? What support do you need from MCP or its members to further enhance your success? This will provide valuable insights into fostering continued partnership and innovation.
  • Networking opportunity with tea & coffee provided
  • Session Two : Interactive Workshops
This interactive session provides a valuable opportunity to explore and align with key initiatives driving the future of our marine and coastal environments. Through focused workshops, participants will examine how their work intersects with the themes of the MCP, identify strategic synergies with fellow members, and uncover emerging research opportunities. Together, we will develop actionable goals to support current projects as well as aspiring projects. We will look at the Marine Nature Recovery Framework, how collaboration is driving action, while also exploring new avenues for innovative projects and collaboration to enhance conservation efforts.
  • Lunch and networking (lunch provided with in-person ticket)
  • Session Three: Planning for the Future of Our Marine & Coastal Ecosystems
In this forward-looking session, talks will focus on how to advocate for our marine and coastal communities and ecosystems, looking at governmental commitments to enhance marine protection and restoration, as well as their vision for building more resilient coastal communities.
  • Session Four: Keynote Address
Prepare to be inspired by a powerful keynote from a local hero, whose dedication to marine conservation and community leadership has made a lasting impact. This session will leave you motivated and energized, with fresh perspectives on how local action can drive meaningful change for our marine and coastal ecosystems.
  • Closing Remarks
As the event concludes, join us for final reflections and key takeaways from the day. This session will summarize the insights shared, celebrate our collective efforts, and outline the next steps for advancing the protection and restoration of our marine and coastal ecosystems.
  • Networking Reception
We invite all attendees to stay and connect with colleagues and friends over refreshments, as we celebrate the conclusion of the inaugural Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Marine and Coastal Partnership event. This is a valuable opportunity to foster new collaborations and strengthen our shared commitment to protecting our marine and coastal environments.
