This exhibition highlights Heroes and Sheroes, a powerful series of prints
created by Corita Kent at a pivotal moment in her career. Produced between 1968 and
1969, following her departure from Immaculate Heart College and the Immaculate Heart
of Mary order, the works reflects a shift toward more direct engagement with the
social and political issues of the time.
Drawing from mass media imagery and bold graphic language, Corita’s work addresses
civil rights, nuclear disarmament, and political unrest. The series
honors influential figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, and Robert
F. Kennedy, capturing the urgency and spirit of a transformative era.
Please stay tuned for a related lecture series and additional programming throughout
the exhibition. In conjunction with the show, the Center for Belonging will also present
Ten Rules for Students and Teachers, further highlighting Corita Kent’s enduring
influence on art, education, and creative practice.
