Coolbough Natural Areas TLC Volunteer Work DayNewaygo, MI
Friday, Dec 6, 12pm - 3pm
Come join Stewart Goldman of the Michigan Nature Association and our volunteer team for this TLC Work Day!
What to expect:
You will walk a half mile or more into the Natural Areas on a trail.
The work will be off the trail, in an area that is being restored to its original oak-pine barrens and savanna status.
You may be helping to cut out some of the shrubs, brush and small trees to open the area again, and prepare it for a future Controlled Burn.
You may be helping to haul the brush to burn piles, or daubing the cut stems with an herbicide so they do not grow back. Weather permitting, the shrub piles may be burned.
Any and all help is much appreciated!
What to bring:
Wear clothing to fit the weather. A light rain will not cancel the workday!
Wear solid foot-wear and work gloves.
If you have loppers, please bring them. There will be some tools available on site.
Bring your water bottle, and a snack if needed.
When to arrive:
Arrive by 12noon if able. But come anytime that you can!
If you come later, that is fine - follow the ORANGE FLAGS to the work site.
You do not need to stay the whole time.
Any and all work is much appreciated!
Cancellation due to weather? An Enews will be sent; check this FB event site; or check the NCEC web calendar: www.nc-ec.org.
How to get there:
Coolbough Main Parking Area
Between Newaygo & Croton: Croton Drive to Barberry Ave north, then east on 58th to parking lot.
If you arrive after 9:15, follow the orange flags to the work site.
Come join our volunteer team for this TLC Work Day!
These public lands belong to you, to us....let's care for them together.
Get to know this beautiful place, and meet others who love it too!
What are the "Coolbough Natural Areas"?
The "Coolbough Natural Areas" are over 400 acres of forests, savannas, wetlands & streams.
Brooks Township holds title to the land, and Michigan Nature Association manages its care.
Management means restoring it as closely to its natural habitats as possible -
Removing invasive species, and allowing the native plants, insects and birds to reclaim their original home.
