About the Artists
Manami Matsushita is a New York–based concert pianist. Following her critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall recital debut in 2025, she continues to perform internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. She is a prizewinner of several international piano competitions, a graduate of the University of Music Würzburg in Germany, and a Steinway Teaching and Educational Partner.
Shuntaro Sugie is a musician equally at home on the harpsichord, fortepiano, and modern piano, and enjoys an active international career performing throughout Europe and North America. His work spans solo, chamber, and orchestral settings, with engagements including Schlosskonzerte in Bad Krozingen (Germany), the Utrecht Early Music Festival (the Netherlands), the American Liszt Society (USA), Projekt Kulturschock (Switzerland), the Windsor Symphony Orchestra (Canada), the Toledo Symphony (USA), Academy of Early Music (USA), Westfield Center for Historical Keyboard Instruments (USA) and has performed in venues such as Hill Auditorium, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. In 2023, he produced an interdisciplinary video project on J.S. Bach’s Kunst der Fuge in collaboration with visual artists and projection designers, reflecting his interest in connecting early music with contemporary visual media. Working across different types of historical keyboards allows him to explore the distinct sound worlds, expressive possibilities, and rhetorical gestures that each instrument brings to the music. Drawn to music-making as a shared and communicative art, his work reflects a commitment to curiosity, stylistic awareness, and a belief that historical performance is not only about the past, but also about finding fresh, meaningful ways to connect with listeners today.
