About this Event
Join us for an informal conversation about Ryan Coogler's extraordinary film, Sinners (2025). Described as "the year's most defining film " for its genre bending narrative and historically informed depictions of life in the Mississippi Delta of the 1930s, the film has also received acclaim for its use of music, and its masterful visual storytelling. It has also been nomimated for 16 Academy Awards!
This community event brings together students and scholars in Cinema and African American Studies to discuss the film, explore its encodings of horror and other genre tropes, and trace its historical impact in light of current questions about the function and power of art, history, and storytelling.
Come and share your ideas and perspectives!
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
