Conversations in Burgundy: Exploring Chablis
About this Event
Chablis occupies a curious position within Burgundy. Much closer geographically to Champagne than the Côte de Beaune, its combination of cool-climate sites and Kimmeridgian soil produces a bright, racy quality of Chardonnay that is quite distinct from the more full-bodied- and expensive- versions produced in villages like Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Chassagne-Montrachet.
The wines of Chablis have long been loved for their almost bracing mixture of steely minerality, bright acid, and taut citric and orchard fruits, which makes them especially wonderful to pair with summer fare and seafood. Not the least of its virtues is the fact that Chablis remains the best source for value in white Burgundy, where Grand Cru bottlings can still be had for half the price the Grand Cru wines of the Côte de Beaune trade for these days.
The wines will be served alongside a spread of seasonal bites.
