Kate McCallum Page gave the lead gift of $5,000 to launch the community campaign to build DeLand Memorial Hospital. Originally the gift was described as a memorial, possibly for her late husband who died in 1916, but in 1919 she publicly endorsed the plan to make the hospital a memorial to those local men who died in World War I, men who “offered their all in the interest of humanity.” Kate Page is portrayed by Deborah McShane.
