Join us for an afternoon with artist Patrick Owens in conversation with Robert Finkel, Professor of Graphic Design. The program will explore Owens’s artistic practice, his work in photography and sculpture, and the ways that place, family, memory, and the act of collecting inform his work. With generations of family ties to Alabama, Owens makes regular trips to the state to photograph, collect, and document the people, objects, and landscapes he encounters.
Patrick Owens was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, and raised in Taylors, South Carolina. He received an AA in Photography from Greenville Technical College, where he works as Studio Manager/Gallery Assistant for the Department of Visual Arts, and earned his BFA in Sculpture, magna cum laude, from Clemson University. His photographs have been included in the Looking at Appalachia project and are held in the Archive of Documentary Arts at Duke University. His work was also featured in the 2017 Contemporary Alabama Photography exhibition at the Mobile Museum of Art.
