(1) basic bone physiology,
(2) osteoporosis, and
(3) general principles of exercise prescription for promoting bone health, minimizing bone loss, and managing osteoporosis.
We will address the importance of providing adequate mechanical stimulation to bones in order to activate the mechanisms that preserve their density and strength. We will discuss common misconceptions regarding optimal exercise for bone health, as well as exercise-related safety concerns. Finally, we will provide ample time to address attendee questions. Please join us for this class to stimulate your mind and to inspire you to do as much as you can to stimulate bone health!

About Nicole
Nicole Mullins, Ph.D., brings more than 30 years of experience in the field of exercise physiology to the Bangor Region YMCA, where she currently serves as the Director of Fitness and Health. Mullins earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in exercise physiology from Kent State University, and her B.S. in exercise science from the University of New Hampshire (UNH). Both her master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation revolved around various exercise-related and nutritional factors affecting bone health and osteoporosis risk. Mullins is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), as a Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP), and by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). She formerly served as a professor of exercise science, at Youngstown State University, where she earned several distinctions for her teaching and service to students. Regardless of position, her career mission has always centered on educating as many people as possible on the immense ability of regular physical activity to enhance quality of life.
