Contributions to Classical Piano Repertoire from Native American Culture by Dr. Lisa Cheryl Thomas.
As Chopin is to Polish dances, as Liszt and Bartok are to Hungarian culture, and as Lecuona is Cuban culture, so are the composers on today's program to Native American Culture.
Through performance of the works themselves and discussion of their background and influence, Dr Thomas demonstrates the true classical idiom—based on our own Indigenous culture—that composer Antonin Dvorak traveled to America to encourage American composers to create.
This is a free event open to the public.
