Contemporary Master Class with Kate Jewett

Presented as part of Dance Project and the North Carolina Dance Festival’s Master Class Series

Join dancer, choreographer, and educator Kate Jewett for a contemporary dance master class exploring movement, expression, and new ways of moving through space.

Drawing from Kate’s own movement style—developed through years of dancing, creating, and teaching, and influenced by her experiences with Merce Cunningham and Shen Wei Dance Arts—this class explores the contrast between clear, expansive lines and circular, flowing movement.

Dancers will be invited to move and express themselves fully, experiment with new movement qualities, and bring their own unique energy and intention to the class. Come ready to move, explore, and discover new possibilities in your dancing!

This class is for dancers 13 and up who are dancing at an intermediate/advanced level.

Kate Jewett is a dancer, choreographer, and educator with more than two decades of experience performing, teaching, and making dance. A graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), she began her professional career with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company’s Repertory Understudy Group before joining Shen Wei Dance Arts, where she performed internationally and later served as Education Director and Rehearsal Director.

Kate has performed, taught, and staged work throughout the U.S. and around the world. She currently teaches contemporary dance and career preparation at UNCSA, where she is also choreographing a new work for Fall Dance. She is the founder of Moving Minds, an educational program that uses dance to bring people together, encourage creativity, and explore new ways of thinking.
