Contemporary Class with Calder White | Monday Sep 22nd & Monday Sep 29th

Starting again this Fall 2025, ODD will be hosting morning dance classes!

Some details:

• Classes take place in Studio B at ODD which is in Arts Court (2 Daly Avenue) on the 2nd floor.

• These are intermediate/advanced level classes, some contemporary dance experience is recommended. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions at [email protected].

• Classes are $11+tax and can be paid at the end of class in person by cash or card.

About the class:

This workshop combines elements of contemporary and modern dance, breakdance/breaking, and various somatic practices to introduce and build upon floorwork fundamentals. We'll research how to fold and position our bodies to roll, slide, spill and sweep through space. We will use developmental movement pathways to become more comfortable with gravity and with falling, all while embracing the bumps and clunks that occur along the way.

About Calder:

Calder White (he/him) is a freelance dance artist based on the unceded and Ancestral lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. He pulls heavily from his training in Limón modern, Bartenieff Fundamentals, street dance forms, and Countertechnique to inform his teachings of weight, fall and suspension, and compartmentalization of the body. Calder has shared his workshops with institutions across North America, including at Ottawa Dance Directive, UC Santa Barbara, Training Society of Vancouver, Yukon Contemporary Training Community, and the Ohio State University.
