About this Event
Learn how to cultivate beautiful plants in any space at our Container Gardening Workshop! Now more than ever, people are seeking a deeper connection with nature and the opportunity to grow their own food and plants in limited spaces. This class will empower you to transform front porches and kitchen windowsills into flourishing container gardens.
Friends of the National Arboretum (FONA) is thrilled to host this event in partnership with Cultivate the City. Cultivate the City, a pioneering urban farming company in Washington, DC, is known for transforming urban spaces into vibrant green environments. The workshop will take place in the U.S. National Arboretum Visitor Center’s classroom.
What You’ll Learn:
- Garden Setup and Care: Master the fundamentals of establishing and maintaining a container garden.
- Choosing Pots and Soil: Learn about various pot types and the best soil mixtures for your plants.
- Local Plant Selection: Find out which plants flourish in our region.
- Seed Starting Techniques: Get essential tips on when and how to plant different crops.
Each participant will receive a fabric pot along with seeds or seedlings to kickstart their gardening journey.
This class is perfect for those with limited space and time who want to dive into gardening. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, come ready with your questions and prepared to grow!
Tickets
We are using a tiered ticketing system to make this program accessible to more budding gardeners. Choose the ticket option that makes sense for you:
- General Admission — $35
- Community Access — $25
All FONA members receive a 20% discount as part of their member benefits. Please make a donation of any amount to become a FONA member. If you are already a member, email [email protected] for the coupon codes.
No pets for this experience. Not recommended for children under 16.
Important Notes
Please do not bring unregistered guests. If you are on the waitlist and have not received an email that a space has opened, unfortunately we're at capacity for this workshop.
Weather Cancellations: If FONA cancels the workshop due to unsafe conditions or threat of inclement weather, you will be notified by email at least 2 hours before the workshop and offered a refund.
Refund Policy: Full refunds are provided for refund requests received up to 3 days prior to the program date.
