Hello movers! Join our next Contact Improvisation (CI) class and jam…Sunday 15 February 2:00pm-6:00pm
Woodside Halls, 36 Glenfarg Street, Glasgow, G20 7QE
Guest dance artist, performer and teacher Maya Bodiley will lead a 90-minute CI class – suitable for any level of experience.
Sharing space, this class invites us to cultivate individual presence, fully inhabiting our bodies in stillness and in motion. We’ll listen-in to the material of the body. With an attention to weight, breath and sensation we’ll attempt to seize the different possibilities that arise in the spaces between us, guided by curiosity and care.
Through attentiveness and serious play, we’ll move solo, and together, in contact. We’ll explore how our relationship to the ground and gravity can shift to support us.
Let’s follow the yet to be discovered… grounded by awareness in moving.
The class will be followed by a group jam.

What is Contact Improvisation?
Contact Improvisation explores the possibilities for movement with a partner or a group. It uses a natural flow of weight, momentum, as well as more subtle connections through touch and the other senses. The form encourages groundedness, listening to one’s own body and other bodies, while connecting to the physical environment in relation to gravity.
A ‘jam’ is a collective improvisation of creative movement, voice or musical instruments. All levels of experience are welcome. An open space to improvise, using tools built up in classes, workshops or our individual practices. They are places to play, connect, express ourselves and explore through movement. People may dance by themselves, in duet, in larger groups, or simply observe.
Participants assume all risks involved in participating in a session with The Glasgow Jam, and release The Glasgow Jam from any liability for their safety. In a jam, participants are responsible for themselves at all times. Children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult.
