Construction 2025: Progress, Challenges, and the Future Industry

As we approach the milestone year set by the UK Government’s Construction 2025 strategy, it’s time to reflect on progress, assess ongoing challenges, and set a vision for the future. The Constructing Excellence Manchester group is bringing together key figures from across the industry to evaluate achievements, discuss innovations, and explore the path toward 2050—a future shaped by sustainability, digital transformation, and productivity improvements.

The event will feature Lisa Harris from St Helens Council as the keynote speaker, followed by two breakout slots. Each slot will offer three sessions, and you’ll be able to attend one session from each slot.

You’ll be asked to choose your preferred option for Slot 1 and Slot 2 after placing your order. Your tickets will be issued once the required information is provided.

Some sessions may have filled up by the time you register, and we’ll confirm your session allocations by email once ticket sales close.

Data-Driven Solutions for Construction Products and Materials Circularity
Host: Juan Antonio Ferriz-Papi, University of Salford

Info: Construction and demolition waste remains costly to manage, often of low quality due to impurities, and challenging to reintegrate into new materials and products. While circularity is increasingly enforced through new or amended regulation and standards, significant hurdles persist.

This session will highlight how improved data management can enhance traceability of construction products and materials, reduce waste and improve quality assurance at the end of life, unlocking opportunities for reuse and higher-value recovery. Digital technologies—such as AI and blockchain— offer powerful tools to accelerate these advances and have the potential to significantly transform the sector.

AI and Construction: The Next Industrial Revolution
Host: Timber Barker - CEO, Boom Interactive

Info: The construction industry is entering a new era where artificial intelligence will redefine how we design, bid, build, and manage projects. In this talk, Timber Barker, CEO of Boom Interactive, an AI technology company, will explore the natural flow of AI adoption — starting with back-office optimisation, moving through bidding and invoicing, and ultimately integrating directly with professional design tools.

Timber will highlight innovators in the space that are transforming jobsite operations and why AI leaders are now investing tens of millions to develop custom AI solutions in this space. Attendees will gain a clear view of how this technological revolution is unfolding and why now is the moment for construction companies to embrace AI — or risk being left behind.

Infrastructure's Role In Shaping the North's Future
Host: Ryan Campbell - Director, Zenit Infrastructure Solutions

Info: The urban centres of the North West have seen exponential growth in recent years, with ambitious residential, commercial and leisure projects created to meet rapidly rising demand. With no signs of this growth slowing the opportunities for the sector are huge, but so is the strain put onto the region's infrastructure to meet this new demand.

Here, Ryan Campbell leads a panel of senior figures from the likes of Energy Northwest in a lively panel discussion on the North West's future energy demands, and what the region may look like in 2050.

Sponsored by Zenit Infrastructure Solutions.

🕑: 03:45 PM - 04:30 PM
The Future of Design, Modelling and 3D printing
Host: Isla Wishart - Senior Architect, jmarchitects

Info: One of the biggest obstacles that designers often face is how to communicate their ideas effectively to their client. In my experience, clients rarely understand 2D construction drawings and have always gained a greater understanding of their project when given an isometric drawing or being walked though their model. These are representational techniques we now use regularly to present our work, but with modern advances in technology there are many innovative solutions available to us today. This session will cover the pros and cons of some of these options including 3D printing, the uses of AI and even 3D holograms and how we see these technologies progressing as they become more accessible and widely used within our industry. Sponsored by Constructing Excellence Manchester.

🕑: 04:30 PM - 05:00 PM
Closing Remarks & Next Steps to 2050
Host: Alison Nicholl - Chief Executive, Constructing Excellenc

Info: Alison Nicholl closes proceedings, offering her take on where the industry is heading to over the next 25 years, and the role that the whole supply chain can play in moving things forward.
