The Conservatory Youth Theatre Showcase is a special event presenting one act plays from the young performers in the Conservatory of Performing Arts Showtime acting program.Performances will include the following (in performance order):
Showtime Junior is our youngest acting program featuring performers ages 8-10. This group will be presenting Fish Tales. Fish is in a pickle. Actually, Fish is in a fishbowl, but she has a major problem — her imagination is broken and she can’t even think of a single wish. Luckily, representatives of the IRS (the Imagination Repair Squad), send Fish on an adventurous undersea journey to the Not-Land of Zo, which is threatened by The Doom. Sapping all the citizens of their energy and spark, it’s going to take creativity and imagination to conquer The Doom! Full of rhymes, wit, and a fun message about being creative and using your imagination. By Beth Ann Powers. This group is directed by Taliyah Hoglander.
Showtime Senior (5:30pm class) is our oldest acting program featuring performers ages 11-14. This group will be presenting A Window for Murder. You’ll love the touch of British flavor in this entertaining Sherlock Holmes spoof. The world-famous private detective, Burton Everhart III, has been summoned to the Straitford Estate in London to investigate the death of Colonel Straitford. The night has not come to a close before a blood-curdling scream shakes the estate. Burton discovers that the widow, Julia Straitford, has had an unfortunate run in with her bedroom window...or should we say run out? From the disgruntled staff to Mrs. Straitford’s own family, everyone appears to have a motive for helping Julia to her abrupt end. With a colorful cast including a bunny slipper wearing butler and a nephew with multiple personalities, the laughs never stop! By Nathan Coey. This group is directed by Joseph Shane McLellan.
Showtime Senior (7:15pm class) is our oldest acting program featuring performers ages 11-14. This group will be presenting Big Bad. Big Bad is a smart and wickedly funny play that lets the audience determine the outcome of the play! The most notorious criminal in the fairy-tale world, Big Bad Wolf, is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by the countless quirky characters he has wronged. Now, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — will clash (on live Court TV, no less, with Sydney Grimm as commentator!) in a trial that will be remembered forever after. But can Mr. Wolf make a good case for himself? Was he born a criminal, or made one? Perhaps he does deserve compassion instead of condemnation! What will the verdict be? Only the jury — our audience — can decide the outcome of the trial... and the play! By Alec Strum. This group is directed by Joseph Shane McLellan.
There will be a short 10-min transition break between each show just to reset the stage and organize students.
Tickets are $8.40 in advance and $10.50 at the door, inclusive of fees and taxes. Seating is not assigned. Tickets can be purchased from the Darke Hall Box Office (306-523-2751) or online by using the Get Tickets link in this event.
Fish Tales, Window for Murder, and Big Bad are all produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., Denver, Colorado.
