About this Event
Conservation Crafting: Next Level Upcycling – Pollinator Edition!
Hosted by Naturalist Tasha & GBN Kimi Takikawa
Mason Mill Recreation Center (Upper Level)
Saturday, August 1st 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
As we step into our second year of Conservation Crafting, we’re continuing to grow—expanding our creative lens while staying true to the heart of what makes this space so special.
This August, we turn our focus to pollinators—the quiet workers behind so much of what we see blooming around us. From bees and butterflies to the plants that depend on them, this session invites you to reflect that relationship through wearable art.
Using repurposed Southwest Airlines leather, you’ll create earrings and bracelets inspired by pollinators and the natural elements that support them. As a special addition, we’ll also introduce a bonus creative piece, transforming leather into mini canvas-style designs that extend your expression beyond jewelry.
This session also serves as a gentle introduction to the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, offering a glimpse into how everyday observation can contribute to meaningful, community-driven science.
You’ll create three pieces to carry beyond the moment—one to keep, one to gift, and one to share forward.
As always, this is a space to settle in, create freely, and enjoy the rhythm of shared creativity.

What We’ll Do
Settle in at a shared table where leather, paint, tools, and imagination wait. Inspired by pollinators—the quiet movement between bloom and bloom—this is a space where ideas are free to wander, gather, and take shape. You’ll create at your own pace, surrounded by other curious and creative minds, as color, texture, and inspiration move fluidly from seat to seat. Between moments of focus and conversation, your table will begin to fill with pieces that echo the beauty of nature in motion—layered, vibrant, and entirely your own.
What to Bring
Bring a sweet or savory snack to share inspired by the flavors of the season—think fresh fruit, honey-infused treats, herb-forward bites, or something light and vibrant. As we craft, we’ll nibble, chat, and settle into an easy rhythm where creativity and connection unfold naturally.

Comfortable clothing suitable for crafting and safe to wear in case of incidental paint or material contact.
