About Jimmy Tomazinis:
Jimmy Tomazinis has worked in the coastal waters of Northeast Florida for the past 10 years. That time has been spent working on various projects related to fisheries research, habitat restoration, and resource protections. He currently oversees the management of two aquatic preserves totaling over 75,000 acres of submerged land in Duval and Nassau counties. One of the core resource management objectives of the preserves is marine debris removal. Arguably the most detrimental type of debris removed are derelict crab traps. With a growing number of lost traps and a limited amount being removed each year Jimmy and his team have been developing methods for removing traps from the low visibility water found in this area. It is hoped that these techniques will finally allow large numbers of derelict traps to be removed and better mitigate the impacts they have on the marine life within the preserves.
