Connect the Buds: Pick and Chat Walk

Step into nature and discover the wild food growing all around us! On this guided foraging and listening walk, we’ll explore the green spaces near Bromley to:

• Identify edible and medicinal plants like hawthorn berries, rose hips, and sloe berries
• Learn how these often-overlooked "weeds" were once everyday ingredients
• Discuss traditional and modern uses for wild plants
• Play a plant-spotting bingo game to learn as we go
• Taste foraged jam and end the session with scones, clotted cream, and a cozy chat

Aimed at 18–25-year-olds curious about:

• Reconnecting with nature
• Gaining practical food knowledge
• Learning new skills in a fun, social way
• Tasting something wild (literally!)

• How to safely identify common edible plants
• Traditional food and medicine uses of plants we walk past every day
• Why wild food is affordable, sustainable, and empowering
• The risks (and how to avoid them) – including a chat about poisonous lookalikes like mushrooms

• We won’t forage or handle mushrooms due to their toxicity risks.
• Those with hay fever or sensitive skin: consider long sleeves/trousers and gloves (optional).
• The walking route is mostly flat and on well-used pathways, with benches along the way.
• The organiser uses a mobility aid and has chosen a route with multiple exit points and bus stops nearby.

• A small bag for collecting (tote, carrier, or sandwich bag)
• Bottle of water
• Weather-appropriate clothing (we'll go ahead rain or shine!)
• Gloves if preferred

If the weather turns, we’ll head back to a nearby hub space for a cozy indoor presentation — and still enjoy the scones and foraged jam!

• Freshly baked scones
• Clotted cream
• Homemade hawthorn, rosehip, or sloe berry jam (all ingredients listed on labels)
• Take-home recipe included!
