Miranda Martini is a multidisciplinary artist with credits as a musician, writer, composer and sound designer. Her latest album, The Historian, marks a return to her roots; produced by blues legend Tim Williams, the album freely blends bluegrass and R&B/soul in tribute to Martini’s Black prairie ancestors. “Spring 1902,” originally penned for “John Ware Reimagined” (the award winning play penned by Miranda’s mother, historian and writer Cheryl Foggo, and for which Miranda penned much of the music), speaks to the gnarled roots of Black identity within Alberta’s cow country, while the title track is a loving reflection on the Black prairie communities of Maidstone and Campsie from which Martini descends.Over the past fifteen years, Meagan Kelln has been raising her family while sharing her love of piano with hundreds of students. Throughout, her own songs have always been welcome companions, providing a conduit for her experiences and reflections. With her debut solo EP Handful, Meagan has fused her classical piano training with folk sensibilities, capturing songs about motherhood, mental health, love and change. These are songs to listen to in your safest spaces, in your in-between moments, songs that recognize the stages we move through in our lives, and the profound shifts we are all moving through together. The world is scary and living is hard. People are hard to get along with. Life is a handful, but it’s all worth it. And so are you.
