Rejoignez-nous pour une conférence avec l’architecte Olayinka Dosekun Adjei, cofondatrice et directrice artistique de Studio Contra. Basé à Lagos, à Abuja et à Accra, Studio Contra intervient au Nigeria, au Ghana et en République du Bénin. Fondé en 2017 par Jeffrey Adjei et Olayinka Dosekun Adjei, le studio travaille tant au niveau régional qu’au niveau international, apportant une perspective africaine contemporaine à des projets complexes d’architecture, d’urbanisme et de design d’intérieur. Cette conférence offrira un aperçu d’une méthodologie de conception en constante évolution, façonnée par le contexte, la collaboration et la continuité culturelle. Le travail du studio repose sur la conviction qu’un impact significatif et durable résulte de l’équilibre entre trois éléments fondamentaux : le concept, la culture et l’artisanat. Au cours de cette conférence, Olayinka Dosekun Adjei explorera la manière dont Studio Contra réinterprète ces éléments au moyen d’une approche du design centrée sur l’humain et sur la valeur à long terme de l’environnement bâti.

Olayinka Dosekun-Adjei est l'une des trois commissaires invitées de notre prochaine série d'expositions Sortis du cadre, consacrée à l’œuvre de Gillian Hopwood et John Godwin, figures majeures de l'architecture tropicale moderne au Nigeria de l'après-indépendance, dont les archives ont récemment été intégrées à la collection du CCA.

Join us for a talk with architect Olayinka Dosekun Adjei, co-founder and creative director of Studio Contra. Based in Lagos, Abuja, and Accra, Studio Contra operates across Nigeria, Ghana, and the Republic of Benin. Founded in 2017 by Jeffrey Adjei and Olayinka Dosekun Adjei, the practice collaborates both regionally and internationally, bringing a contemporary African perspective to complex architectural, urban, and interior design projects. This talk will offer insight into an evolving design methodology shaped by context, collaboration, and cultural continuity. The studio’s work is grounded in a belief that meaningful, lasting impact emerges from balancing three core elements: concept, culture, and craft. In this lecture, Olayinka Dosekun Adjei will explore how Studio Contra reinterprets these elements through a human-centred design approach, with a strong commitment to long-term value in the built environment.

Olayinka Dosekun-Adjei is one of the three guest-curators of our upcoming Out of the Box exhibition series, dedicated to the work of Gillian Hopwood and John Godwin, prolific architects in post-independence Nigeria, whose archive was recently donated to the CCA.
