About this Event

Chamberbsurg was the northern most occupation achieved by the Confederate Army during the Civil War. CSA Brig Gen John McCausland was instructed by Lt Gen Jubal Early to demand a ransom of $200,000 in Union greenbacks or suffer devastaion by fire on July 30, 1864. Ultimately, the citizens failed to riase the ransom and Confederates torched Chamberbsurg.
