Salt Beef Junkies
The Salt Beef Junkies are three dynamic young musicians dedicated to preserving and energizing traditional Irish-Newfoundland music. Known for their lively, infectious tunes, they’ve built a strong local and international following. Featuring:
- Luke Mercer on accordion, guitar, harmonica, and vocals
- Ty Simms on guitar, banjo, bass, and vocals
- Alex Mercer on vocals and bodhran.
Since forming in 2019, they’ve performed extensively across Canada and Ireland at festivals, venues, and events, including a feature on HGTV’s “Rock Solid Builds.” Their 2024 debut album, Somewhere in Between, earned critical acclaim with nominations for Celtic/Traditional Group of the Year at the 2024 Music NL Awards, Youth Performer of the Year at the 2025 Canadian Folk Music Awards, and the 2025 ArtsNL Emerging Artist of the Year. In August 2025, they showcased their talents at Ireland’s Fleadh Cheoil festival in Dublin and Wexford, which attracts over 850,000 attendees.
Building on their momentum, they released three new singles in 2025, leading to another Canadian Folk Music Awards nomination in 2026 and expanding their global streaming audience.
Committed to community impact, the Salt Beef Junkies regularly perform at fundraisers and non-profit events. Their leadership and volunteer efforts earned them the Quinn Rockstar Award, recognizing outstanding youth contribution and community service.
Dan Mills
Dan Mills (vocals, flute, whistles, fiddle, guitar, and bouzouki) is an accomplished musician from Newfoundland. Danny was a mainstay in the popular band “The Freels with Fergus O’Byrne and Maria Peddle.
Get Reel
Hailing from the East Coast of De Winton and the North Shores of Calgary, our jolly ship’s crew will explore a lively set of songs and fiddle tunes from the East Coast, Irish, Scottish, Folk, and other Celtic traditions. Get Reel blen
Blending a mix of harmonies into their songs, Get Reel is Doug Wagner (vocals, bodhran, guitar, and fiddle), Greg Black (vocals, guitar, electric bass, and octave mandolin) and Tony Hogan (vocals and percussion).
Over many years, Get Reel has performed in numerous venues around Alberta, including the Water Valley Celtic Festival, the Irish Cultural Society, Okotoks, and the High River. We are also the house band for Celtic Folk.
When the fog is just right, you can almost smell the ocean, see the shipwrecks, hear the crashing waves with "a tiny trace of fiddling in the distance far behind him."
Important Notes
It is a concert format (attentive audience) in an authentic pub-style setting. It is not a pub night. The ICS provides the bar service. Please be responsible and reasonable while enjoying the performance so everyone else can enjoy their evening.
Unfortunately there is no stairlift or elevator to get downstairs to Hickey's - an elevator being installed for winter 2026 - check with the venue for availability. As a private venue, children are permitted. However, they should be old enough to focus on the performance or another non-disruptive activity and must be supervised by a parent at all times.
Doors open at 6:30 pm.
Due to the nature of running concerts, all ticket sales are final.
