Redfern Arts Center at Keene State College | Keene, NH
The Keene State College Concert Band is celebrating nearly 50 years as a campus-community group, composed of musicians from every walk of life, ages 18 to 88. With a rich history of entertaining and educating, the ensemble is proud to promote the creation and performance of new music, particularly by musicians from under-represented populations. This concert will also feature Bente Illevold, freelance euphonium artist and musical entrepreneur from Norway, and Dr. Jasmine Pigott, tuba performing artist, educator, and composer.
This concert has a double meaning: “heavy metal” refers both to the lowest, heaviest instruments in the brass family featured in this concert (euphonium & tuba), and to the heavy chains of enslaved people in America’s past. This performance will also feature the premiere of new versions of works for concert band: Bente Illevold’s Concerto for Euphonium, and Jasmine Pigott’s Roots Torn, Routes Chosen.
Theatre/Location: Main Theatre
