🍂 Part of the Whiddon Autumn Festival 2024WAF 2024's opening concert features two of the most exciting young rising stars of the UK's opera and recital scene, who will perform a moving programme of English, French & German art song from the 19th & 20th centuries.
An alumna of the Verbier Festival Atelier Lyrique, Glyndebourne/Jerwood, Opera Holland Park, Samling, Britten-Pears, and Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artist programmes, soprano Charlotte Bowden is a multiple-prize-winner and graduate of the Royal College of Music Opera Studio. Charlotte will be joined by Harry Baker (piano) and the Festival String Quartet for the concert's eponymous song by Ernest Chausson, and will also perform music by Cécile Chaminade, Claude Debussy, Fanny Mendelssohn, Felix Mendelssohn and Undine Smith Moore.
Winner of the 2024 Kathleen Ferrier Award and rising star of the UK opera scene, tenor Matthew McKinney is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, praised by the jury of the Ferrier Awards for his "passionate, committed singing, that in its outstanding communicative power celebrated so movingly the spirit of Ferrier herself". Matthew will perform songs by Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann and Gabriel Fauré with Harry Baker (piano), and Edmund Rubbra's cycle Amoretti: Five Sonnets with the Festival String Quartet.
Charlotte and Matthew perform alongside returning pianist Harry Baker and our very own Festival String Quartet.
