About this Event
Compound is driven by the belief that “culture shifts consciousness.” This belief is the foundation of Compound Conversations, a quarterly series shepherded by our desire to uplift humanity through connections created for our community. During this series, artists collaborate to push the boundaries of conventional thinking through immersive experiences that combine wellness, art, music, science, and consciousness building. Attendees are invited to enjoy evenings filled with moments that ignite the senses.

Compound Conversations with Tony Marsh x Flamingo Estates
Join us for an evening with contemporary ceramic artist Tony Marsh and Richard Christiansen of Flamingo Estates as they dive into conversation about Richard's upcoming book The Guide to Becoming Alive, and discuss how we can find wellness, happiness, and beauty in our day-to-day.
A Q&A with the audience will follow the conversation.
About Tony Marsh:
Tony Marsh earned his BFA in Ceramic Art at California State University Long Beach in 1978. After graduating he spent 3 years in Mashiko, Japan at the workshop of Master Mingei potter and Living National Treasure, Tatsuzo Shimaoka. Marsh completed his MFA at Alfred University in 1988. He teaches in the Ceramic Arts Program at California State University Long Beach where was the Program Chair for 25 years. Tony was the first Director of the Center for Contemporary Ceramics at CSULB. Marsh has taught, lectured and exhibited extensively throughout the US, Asia and Europe. Tony was recognized as a 2018 United States Artist Fellow.
You will find his ceramic art in many private and permanent Institutional collections around the world, included among them the: SFMOMA, The Hammer Museum, LA Musee d’Art Moderne, Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, Museum of Art & Design, NY, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Everson Museum, Syracuse, the Oakland Museum of Art, Gardiner Museum of Art, Toronto, Museum of Fine Arts Houston among them.
About Richard Christiansen:
Richard Christiansen is a gardener, traveler and world-builder. As the founder of Flamingo Estate — a home and garden brand that champions botanical wellness and pleasure from Mother Nature — he believes in the power of green thumbs and middle fingers. He grew up in rural Australia, He lives at Flamingo Estate in Los Angeles with his partner Harvey, his dogs, chickens, goats, and bees.
