About this Event

Spend a morning with Hannah Project Grow's master composter. There will be talks and information on how to get good compost utalising the science. A chance to see active heaps and worm bins to compare which system works for your space.

An overview of Project grow and our work

Info: An introduction to the day with hot drinks and a chance to learn about our compositing work across our three sites.


🕑: 10:00 AM
Talk: The fundamentals of composting with Hannah· Master Composter

Info: An introduction to the science behind composting — the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, microbial activity, moisture, and aeration. Why good compost transforms a growing space and how to get it right first time.

Types of composting systems

Info: Comparing cold composting, hot composting, bokashi, worm composting, and leaf mould. Which system suits which space, scale, and community — including small urban gardens and allotments.

Demonstration site tour with Hannah

Info: A guided walk of our live composting demonstration areas across the site. See active heaps, worm bins, and finished compost in use across our growing beds. Hannah will show the different stages of decomposition and answer questions along the way.

Exploration and refreshments

Info: Bring your own lunch or grab something locally. Browse the Potting Shed, pick up seasonal plug plants, and chat informally with Hannah and the Project Grow team.
