First Parish in Billerica welcomes back Yaakov Trek Reef, wilderness spirituality guide and co-founder of the Alliance for Wilderness Engagement, for a special worship service and ritual rooted in his favorite topic: compost!

Together, we’ll reflect on what we’re ready to let go of: old stories, habits, griefs, fears, and offer them back to the Earth in a composting ritual that honors the sacred cycle of decay and renewal.

Please bring one already fallen leaf (or more than one) for each thing you wish to compost in the ritual. These will become part of our shared altar, a visible sign of what we’re returning to the soil.

All are welcome. No prior experience or religious affiliation is needed.

About Yaakov Trek Reef

Trek walks in the world a student and teacher of wilderness spirituality. An avid backpacker, they hiked all 2189.1 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail in 2016 in order to find a deeper connection to our more-than-human world.

He is the founder of and lead guide for the Alliance for Wilderness Engagement, a non-profit whose mission is to rekindle our relationship with our more-than-human world; a Master of Divinity student at Meadville Lombard Theological School; and is currently serving as Intern Minister at First Parish Church of Stow & Acton in Stow, Massachusetts.

Trek lives in Billerica, Massachusetts along with his partner, Justin.
