Composition in the Field - Photography Workshop

Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates). There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.

You will have fun in the three hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.

South Beach is one of the most beautiful and most cultured sections of Florida. From world-famous ballet to top-notch restaurants to exciting shopping strips, South Beach has it all. And of course, the greatest attractions to South Beach are the cool waters and sandy shores and the amazing art deco architecture. Join your Digital Photo Academy instructor for a photographic stroll across the beach and along Ocean Drive.

South Beach is a wonderful place to shoot because it provides you with a variety of subjects and styles of photography. Snap photos of local teens playing volleyball for some killer action shots, capture the tide as it dances along the shore for some nature photos, and reveal the brightly colored art deco architecture. Take portraits of your new friends, shoot in macro to expose the small details of a seashell, and use a wide-angle lens to set a hotel in your frame.

Photographing alongside your DPA Instructor, you will learn new techniques and lessons in composition, and then be able to experiment with them out in the field under the guidance of a professional. Use leading lines to show the beach fade into the distance, manipulate your shutter speed to blur or still the motion of a soaring volleyball, and change your angle when shooting different styles of architecture to find an interesting way to display size and shape.

We will meet outside of News Cafe located at 800 Ocean Drive, Miami, FL 33139. Please bring your DSLR or another type of digital camera that you use, a fully-charged battery, and the equipment that you can carry. You should dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes, and carry a bottle of water.

Please note – if a class must be cancelled due to weather or other circumstances beyond our control we will be happy to work with you to reschedule or provide a refund. However, if you should need to cancel or require a new class date, contact us. A $25 transfer fee will be imposed without a 3 day notice before the scheduled class.
