Arrive at 6pm for the opportunity to walk through the gallery and experience the Into Light Project, a nationwide arts-activism project that uses portraiture and storytelling to reduce stigma surrounding the opioid epidemic and to honor lives lost to overdose and addiction. View the portraits and narratives honoring 10 local Berkshire County residents we have lost to addiction as well as portraits from across the Commonwealth.

Compassionate Addiction Treatment Presentation (1 hour of CE credit time- See details below)

Dr. Jennifer Michaels, MD FASAM Psychiatrist and Medical Director of the Brien Center

Education about the disease of addiction, evidence-based care, stigma-reducing strategies, and areas of treatment research. Objectives: Participants will describe the three stages of the brain disease model of addiction. Participants will list 3 barriers to treatment and 3 innovative access models for treatment. Participants will identify 3 evidence-based treatment interventions and 2 interventions to reduce stigma.

During this 1 hour presentation you’ll learn about the brain disease model of addiction and the neuroscience behind addiction. Barriers to treatment and evidence-based rapid access models will be discussed and stigma reducing techniques will be described. New frontiers in addiction treatment will be outlined.

Target audience includes LCSWs, LMHCs, LADCs, Nurses and anyone who works with individuals with substance use disorder. Open to the public.

This event is sponsored by the Northern Berkshire HEAL Coalition, Berkshire Overdose and Addiction Prevention Collaborative. Continuing Education Sponsor is Berkshire AHEC. Premier Sponsor of the Berkshire County Into Light Project is Berkshire Health Systems.

MA Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor: This course has been approved by the Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services/LADC Unit for 1 contact hours for Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors and Assistants.

MA Nursing: Program meets the requirements for nursing contact hours as specified by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing 244 CMR 5.04.

Social Worker: Application for Social Worker continuing education credits has been submitted. Please contact Berkshire AHEC at 413-842-5160 for the status of Social Worker CE accreditation.
