Community Mural Painting Session

The LEDC is launching a rotating public art installation as part of a broader Public Art Plan, an initiative designed to beautify Lansdowne’s streetscape, engage residents and visitors alike, and support the work of regional artists. This project will transform a large boarded-up window at the 39 North Lansdowne Avenue Dollar Tree location, into a vibrant display of community expression.

The first iteration of the project will be a community mural that will be led by Keyonna Butler of Black Hippie Art, and will highlight community-sourced canvases reflecting the spirit of What Lansdowne means to our community members. Located in the heart of downtown and seen by over 17,000 cars daily, this mural will be a powerful and highly visible celebration of Lansdowne’s creative future.

From now until Monday, September 15th, we invite you, your business, organization, or team to participate by painting your vision of What Lansdowne Means to You on a 10” x 10” canvas square provided by the LEDC. Your design can be abstract or literal, what matters most is your unique perspective on our shared community!All contributing individuals, organizations, and businesses will receive public acknowledgement and will be invited to a final unveiling, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

HERE's HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Paintable canvas squares will be available during regular business hours at the LEDC Office & Utility Works Building located at 32 E Baltimore Ave, Lansdowne, PA 19050.🖌 Join a free community painting session with artist Keyonna Butler:

NOTE: You may complete and finish squares at home. You do not need to attend a community painting session, however, sessions are free and materials will be available to participants at these events.

ARTIST GUIDELINES

Return your completed square to Utility Works (32 East Baltimore Ave) by Monday, Sept 15th.

🎨 What to Use:

- Paints -

Use acrylic or latex paints (liquid or paint pens).

✅ OK: Acrylic paint, acrylic paint pens, latex house paint

❌ Do not use: oil paint, watercolor, or alcohol-based markers

- Collage -

You may include collage elements! If you do...Use Outdoor Mod Podge (available at Michaels, Blick, or Amazon) to glue and seal itemsApply multiple thin coats to fully seal paper or fabric edges

- Finish -

No need to add a sealant over painted surfaces. LEDC will handle weatherproofing.

DESIGN GUIDELINES

- Theme: Your square should relate to Lansdowne—its people, places, history, nature, or spirit.

- Please do not include: Inappropriate language or images, off-topic imagery or unintentional marks (e.g., toddler scribbles)

- The Tree: The center of the final mural will feature a large Lansdowne tree, so your square does not need to include it.

- Border: You may decorate the edges, but keep a consistent border size as indicated on your square. This helps with alignment in the final layout.
