Dates for the 2026 community litter-picking events!
Just a gentle reminder that Claire and I organise these as volunteers. We don’t receive any funding or extra support, other than coordinating with the council to arrange equipment drop-off and collection points. We are always incredibly grateful to anyone who comes along to help.
Most of the time it’s just the two of us, sometimes with one or two other brilliant volunteers. We completely understand that people are busy and have other commitments, but with such a small team we’re quite limited in how much we can cover unless we have more hands.
To help spread things out a bit this year, we’re trying something new by working across two zones because we do tend to always focus around the school area which might not be of interest to everyone:
Zone 1 – Auckland Wynd / Sunnybank Street
Claire will be stationed at the top of Auckland Wynd (opposite the school) as usual, with equipment available. Anyone who wants to help can work in their own area and leave their filled litter bags clearly on Sunnybank Street. We’ll then let the council know to collect along Sunnybank Street - so you feel like you’ve more room to roam and not stuck in just one area.
Zone 2 – Springfield Road side of the village
The meeting point will be at the top of the steps on London Avenue and I will have equipment available. I’ll identify a suitable collection point in the next coming weeks and update this post with it
