About this Event

Join us at Paradise Parking Plots Community Garden on Saturday, Oct 18th from 9am-12pm to help prepare our garden for winter & remove invasive plants! Now that the growing season has ended, our garden plots are ready to be prepped for the winter. We need your help to amend our soil with healthy compost and plant protective winter cover crop in our 50 growing beds. These actions will prevent winter erosion of our soil, prevent nutrients from leaching into our waterways, and ensure we’re set up for a productive 2026 harvest! Additionally, as time allows, we will be removing invasive blackberry from our native restoration areas.

Things to bring:

· Dirt-friendly, sturdy footwear

· Clothing that can get dirty

· Long pants and long sleeves preferred for protection from prickly plants

· Waterproof jacket/pants (if rainy weather)

· Snacks

· Full water bottle – cooler will be available for refill

· A pair of work gloves – we will have extras onsite

Other Details:

· Youth under the age of 15 must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

· This event will happen rain or shine, so please dress appropriately!

Garden Background and Virtual Tour:

Here is some background information on the garden to give you context on the importance of this project. You can also view a virtual tour led by our amazing Paradise Parking Plots interns here!

Paradise Parking Plots Community Garden is a 2-acre underused parking lot that has been transformed into a community resource. As a project of World Relief Western Washington, a refugee resettlement and services agency, it is a place where refugees, immigrants and local community members can gather to grow culturally-appropriate foods that promote a healthier lifestyle, improve food access, foster economic independence and build community. The garden is also one of the largest green infrastructure projects in South King County, collecting rainwater for irrigation needs and cleaning polluted stormwater through our raingardens and bioswale. We seek to see holistic change in our communities through caring for people and place.
