Community Garden Volunteer Day in El Monte
About this Event
Together we’ll be transforming a barren field into a vibrant native garden and outdoor education center. The land will become a refuge for both humans and wildlife. We'll be creating walking paths, gathering spaces, an outdoor classroom, and nature play zones. It is also an earth-healing landscape; providing shade, water and carbon capture, and biodiversity protection.
What you’ll learn: The first step in the transformation process is to sheet-mulch the entire area, in order to build healthy, W**d-free soil. You’ll see how sheet mulching works and learn tips for handling different types of weeds. You’ll also see how we shape the ground to create swales and capture precious rain, allowing the garden to thrive with minimal watering.
Feel free to come for all or just part of the event!
Help Our Gardens Grow: We need plain brown cardboard for our garden sites. If you have extra, feel free to bring it to the event! All cardboard sizes will work, but the larger the better. The cardboard will help us suppress weeds and build healthy soil naturally.
