SFU CERi is excited to offer three in-person workshops in 2025, hosted at 312 Main. Join us to deepen your understanding of community-engaged research (CER) and enhance your skills with actionable insights.
Introductions and Orientation to CER

CER Methods and Methodologies
- Date: Tuesday, October 28, 2025* (1-3:30 PM)
- Location: SFU CERi at 312 Main (in-person only)
- Description: This workshop, led by CERi co-director Dr. Stuart Poyntz (Professor and Associate Director of the School of Communication), explores the principles and practices of community-engaged research (CER) methods, emphasizing collaboration, rigor, equity, and actionable outcomes. Participants will learn to differentiate methods from methodology, select participatory techniques, navigate ethical challenges, and align research with community priorities. Through case studies and dialogue, attendees will better understand how to design inclusive and impactful research projects.
Decolonizing knowledges and research

- Description: This workshop, led by Dr. Dorothy Christian (Associate Director, Indigenous Policy & Pedagogy), explores decolonial and reconciliatory practices in community-engaged research, focusing on ethical collaboration, equitable partnerships, and addressing systemic power imbalances.

Knowledge Mobilization and Dissemination
- Date: Tuesday, February 10, 2025 (1-3:30 PM)
- Location: SFU CERi at 312 Main (in-person only)
- Description: This workshop, led by Dr. Hannah McGregor (Director & Associate Professor, SFU Publishing), focuses on effectively translating research into action by engaging communities in the knowledge mobilization process, through podcasts and other modes of accessible communication. Participants will explore strategies for co-creating knowledge, tailoring dissemination for diverse audiences, and ensuring research has meaningful impact.
